Bratwurst fresh off the grill

Ingredients

Recipe adapted from one on TasteOfHome.com

Serves: 12

  • 3 lbs uncooked bratwurst links
  • 3 lbs small red potatoes
  • 1 lbs baby carrots
  • 1 large red onion
  • 2 jars whole mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 envelope of onion soup mix
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions:

  1. Start by building a strong fire and cleaning your grill grate with paper towels dipped in oil and a pair of tongs to clean the grill grates.
  2. Wash and dry all of your produce and drain the mushrooms.
  3. Cut your red potatoes into wedges and slice the red onion into rings.
  4. Carefully cube the butter and cut the bratwurst into thirds.
  5. Cut foil packets to form two separate packets. Be sure to double-line the thickness of the heavy-duty aluminum foil to ensure the ingredients don’t burn.
  6. Divide each of the ingredients among the four packets evenly. Sprinkle with the soup, mix soy sauce and pepper, and add butter cubes to each packet.
  7. Carefully fold the edges of the foil together and crimp to seal. Once you have a firm seal where no steam can escape, gently work the packet, or turn it over to help coat the ingredients in the seasonings.
  8. Set the packets on the grill over medium heat and cook for 25 minutes or so, then turn and cook another 25 minutes on the other side.
  9. Once the veggies or tender in the sausage is no longer pink in the middle, you can carefully open the package and allow it to steam before serving.
  10. We recommend serving this dish with warm, crusted bread.
